Ocracoke Civic & Business Association, NPS seeks ideas for Ocracoke horse management plan

Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) will seek input on the development of a horse management plan at a public meeting May 21 on Ocracoke Island.

In light of sea level rise effects and in consideration of National Park Service management policies, the Seashore is preparing to develop a management plan for the Ocracoke horses and seeks assistance in identifying issues, concerns and opportunities.

The purpose of the public meeting is to receive preliminary input in advance of the plan’s development.

Meeting Details
Date: Tuesday, May 21, 2024
Time: 1 to 2 p.m.
Location: Ocracoke Community Center, 999 Irvin Garrish Highway, Ocracoke, North Carolina

If the ferry isn’t running due to inclement weather or road conditions, the meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.

Once a range of ideas are received and refined through the preliminary public meeting, the Seashore will move to the next phase, which will include formal public meetings associated with the environmental review process.
