Tideland EMC CEO Paul Spruill will attend the Tuesday, April 16, Ocracoke Civic and Business Association meeting at 6 p.m. on in the Community Center.
He will provide an overview of existing electricity facilities and the accelerated infrastructure challenges posed by continuing erosion and frequent overwash on the north end of Ocracoke Island.
We will discuss temporary measures that Tideland EMC and project partners plan to implement to protect existing overhead infrastructure.
Tideland will also present the details of a long-term project to further extend the armored submarine cable on the north end of the island to further reduce exposed, overhead infrastructure.
As a qualifying small utility, Tideland EMC is applying for a U.S. Department of Energy Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act grant to help fund a significant portion of this project.
A community benefits plan is key to our application success.
To that end, they are eager to have a discussion with island residents, business owners, those involved in the travel and tourism industry as well as our partners in education about how this project can reap the widest array of benefits for Ocracoke.
